SERIES 3

couple.jpg

The series begins with a stark archival group photograph of young girls in a colonial-era setting, dressed in uniform and arranged for the camera. As an AI repeatedly describes the image and regenerates it from its own descriptions, the documentary context dissolves and the scene is steadily rewritten. The group shifts into a stylized “ethnographic” aesthetic: poised women in headwraps, then increasingly glamorized portraits where sameness takes over and individuality fades. As the drift continues, the imagery is pulled toward an exoticized, cinematic North African and ancient-Egypt register—gold, jewelry, ritual costuming, staged solemnity—until it lands in a full Hollywood fantasy of Cleopatra, complete with armies and spectacle. By the final frames, the “Egyptians” read as white actresses in costume, revealing a familiar bias: history recast through Western beauty standards, culture reduced to wardrobe, and representation bent toward a marketable spectacle.
